Chestnut Street Boathouse — c.1908

Location: West Bayfront Parkway, at the foot of Chestnut St., Erie, Pennsylvania
Dates: Original building — c.1908; Renovation complete — 2005
The structure was built c.1908 by Erie Water Works to house a boat used to check on equipment. The current parking lots sit where a public pool was once a popular summer destination. In 1929, the building was enlarged to house a new, larger Water Works boat.
This project involved renovation of the building’s exterior, including replacing the roof, doors and windows, and carpentry repair and painting. The boathouse now functions as a private boat rental facility.
