The Queen Anne-style Boothby Inn was constructed in 1888 as the residence of William Sands (1842–1912) and his wife, Cordelia “Delia” A. Sands (1842–1901). Sands owned Erie Steam Bakery at the southwest corner of East Fourth and French streets. The single-family residence had been converted into three apartments and later used as a doctor’s office.
The renovation of the house into a bed and breakfast included restoration of four guest rooms with private bathrooms, installation of a modern kitchen, and return of the first floor to public space for functions. Exterior work included masonry restoration, porch restoration, and window repair. The original carriage house was converted into a living suite for the owners. The property operated as a four-room bed and breakfast called the Boothby Inn between 2000 and 2012.
